Stage Stop Gun Shop & Indoor Range offers a variety of training courses. Whether you are newer to shooting, want to improve the skills you already have, or need certification for your CCW, we have a class for you! Please check our events calendar for upcoming class dates. You can call or come into the shop to pay to reserve your spot.

Firearm Skill Development

HANDGUN FUNDAMENTALS CLASS

This class is for a beginner shooter or for someone seeking a refresher class. This class is 4.5 hours long. In this class you will learn basic firearm safety as well as basic shooting skills. We will supply the firearm and the ammunition. The shooter may bring a personal handgun with ammunition. IT MUST BE UNLOADED AND PROPERLY SECURED. Time permitting, they may transition to their handgun under the supervision of an instructor. To register for the class, you will need to call or come into either location to pay for your spot. Please review the class confirmation form “Class Confirmation.”

You will need: eye and ear protection. Low cut-cut shirts and open toe shoes are not allowed on the range. If you have not done so within the year, please sign the waiver prior to your class.

 
HANDGUN FUNDAMENTALS EXPANDED CLASS

This 3-hour class takes the beginner shooter and continues to work on the basic skills by emphasizing safety and shooting mechanics. We will supply the firearm and the ammunition. The shooter may bring a personal handgun with ammunition. IT MUST BE UNLOADED AND PROPERLY SECURED. Time permitting, they may transition to their handgun under the supervision of an instructor. The prerequisite to take this course is: The student must have completed the Handgun Fundamentals class at the Stage Stop Gun Shop, (or) be a current/retired law enforcement officer, (or) be a holder of a current CA CCW permit. To register for the class, you will need to call or come into either location to pay for your spot. Please review the class confirmation form “Class Confirmation.”

You will need: eye and ear protection. Low cut-cut shirts and open toe shoes are not allowed on the range. If you have not done so within the year, please sign the waiver prior to your class.

 
PRE CCW CLASS

This 4-hour class will help develop a base skill set for those seeking a CCW, or as a refresher for those already possessing a CCW, by introducing the proper steps in drawing from the holster, firing and returning the firearm to the holster. Additionally, the press check, tactical malfunction clearing, emergency reload, and shooting controlled pairs drills will be introduced. Once the shooter successfully passes the course, he/she will be allowed to draw from the holster at the Stage Stop Gun Shop indoor range. The prerequisite to take this course is: The student must have completed the Handgun Fundamentals class at the Stage Stop Gun Shop, (or) be a current/retired law enforcement officer, (or) be a holder of a current CA CCW permit. To register for the class, you will need to call or come into either location to pay for your spot. Please review the class confirmation form “Class Confirmation.”

“You will need: eye and ear protection. Your own firearm, IT MUST BE UNLOADED AND PROPERLY SECURED, a Kydex (or) leather holster, formed specifically to their firearm. The holster must be an OWB (outside the waistband), IWB (inside the waistband), or AIWB (appendix inside the waistband). You will need an appropriate gun belt, at least 2 magazines with pouches, (or) 2 speed loaders with pouches. 200 rounds of FMJ ammunition will be needed in addition to at least 5 snap caps of the same caliber as the firearm being used.

Low cut-cut shirts and open toe shoes are not allowed on the range. If you have not done so within the year, please sign the range waiver prior to your class.

 
CCW ADVANCED CLASS

This is a 4 hour advanced CCW class where current CCW holders will learn advanced pistol techniques and tactics which will help them prepare to effectively handle potential deadly threats and encounters. In order to be registered for the class, you will need to call or come into either location to pay for your spot! Please review the class confirmation form “Class Confirmation”

You will need: eye and ear protection, 200 rounds of ammunition per firearm, a holster and extra magazines. No low-cut shirts or open toe shoes will be allowed in the range. If you have not done so within the last year, please sign the range waiver prior to your class.

 

CCW Courses

CCW NEW APPLICANT CLASS

This class is 16 hours long. This class will teach the laws in CA regarding CCW and self-defense and you will qualify with the firearm(s) that you wish to have on your permit. You must have already turned in your application to your county and received approval in order to take this class. We are currently certified to instruct residents of the counties of Madera, Mariposa, Merced, Stanislaus, Tuolumne & the City of Turlock. Check back for updates regarding additional counties that may become available. In order to be registered for the class, you will need to call or come into either location to pay for your spot!

For this class you will need: ID, firearm(s) (max 3), 200 rounds of ammunition or at least 60 rounds per firearm, eye and ear protection, the holster you plan to use and at least two magazines per firearm. No low-cut shirts or open toe shoes will be allowed in the range. If you have not done so within the last year, please sign the range waiver prior to your class. Please review the class confirmation form “Class Confirmation” and download and fill out the form “CCW Serial” and email the completed serial number form to train@ssgs.us at least one business day prior to your class.

For those applicants that have minimal or no handgun experience, it is recommended, (but not required), that they attend the PRE CCW course.

 
CCW RENEWAL CLASS

This class is 8 hours and is for individuals that have an expiring CCW. We are currently certified to instruct residents of the counties of Madera, Mariposa, Merced, Stanislaus, Tuolumne & the City of Turlock. Check back for updates regarding additional counties that may become available. In order to be registered for the class, you will need to call or come into either location to pay for your spot!

For those individuals who have limited experience/range time, or just desire to increase their CCW base skill set, it is recommended, (but not required), that they attend the PRE CCW course.

 
UTAH CCW CLASS

At the end of this four hour course, you will have everything you need to get your non-resident Utah CCW.

In order to be registered for the class, you will need to call or come into either location to pay for your spot!

 
ONLINE CCW INITIAL OR RENEWAL CLASS

Whether applying for the first time, or renewing every two years, the process for your California concealed weapons license just got easier with this exclusive online course hosted by Stage Stop Gun Shop in Atwater, CA. Complete our online course, specific to a 16 hour initial or 8 hour renewal, from the comfort of your own home or anywhere you have internet access, and then come to Stage Stop Gun Shop to complete the live-fire shooting course to complete your process and receive the necessary credentials to provide to your issuing jurisdiction. Please check the Events calendar or call prior to coming in to complete the qualification process.

Additional Training Courses

HUNTERS SAFETY

This class alone is not a qualification for a hunter education certificate. Access is permitted to this 4-hour follow-up class only after a student has completed the written home study or online component of the class (please scroll down for online component). Class is limited to ages 12 and up Students are expected to know at least 90% of the material when coming to class. Please study. Pay extra attention to Wildlife Mgmt/Conservation chapter Bring proof of online course completion. Print, fill out, and bring Student Consent Form to class.
